SPIEGEL ONLINE's improved Android app: read Germany's premier news source on your smartphone or tablet!

Our app provides you with instant access to all the daily news, analysis, opinion, features and interviews on offer from SPIEGEL ONLINE's 140-member editorial team -- for free.

Please note that this app's navigation and content are in German.

In version 2.8 of this app, we have introduced a number of new features. We have adapted our navigation, controls and settings menus to Google's material design and added an improved way to change text sizes on the home and article pages. More improvements will follow.

Here's what you get in more detail:

* More than 100 news articles, features and analyses each day from the worlds of politics, business, sports and more. In addition, you get all our opinion pieces and blogs.

* Push notifications about breaking news and "section alerts" for important stories from favorite sections of your choice.

* All our videos and photo galleries.

* Access to reader comments in our forum and the ability to post comments yourself.

* Thanks to Pack&Go, you can download articles to read them later when your mobile device is offline.

* You can now resize the widget and place it on your lock screen.

* We have begun optimize our app for 7 and 10 inch Android tablets. We have adapted font sizes, margins and picture dimensions to improve the app's look on larger screens. In landscape mode, we have added a new column with a list of all news stories in chronological order.

...with recent updates, the app has crawled almost to a halt. Virtually impossible to use in the US and China (where I happen to live for most of the year). Has worked great before. Schade!
